Farmstead Beef
In 2000 we started Southwest Cattle Co. (a cow/calf operation) and had approximately 2500 head of cattle located on several leases throughout the state of Florida.
In 2014 developers bought up most of the leases we had so we were forced to downsize. Matt made the decision to go back into the road building business and I started Rocking K Cattle which is a cow/calf operation with 1200 head of cattle located on leases in Hillsborough and Dixie County and on our own property in Cross City, Florida. A cow/calf operation means the calf is raised until weaning and then it is sold and shipped to a feed lot to finish growing. We have always processed a few steers a year for ourselves, our family and our friends. Over the years I have been asked more times than I can count if I sell my beef direct to the consumer so in 2023 I decided it was time to go ahead and pull the trigger. I started Rocking K Farmstead Beef so that I can sell direct to local customers.

Our mama cows are Angus cows with 1/8 Brahman bred back into them. They are bred to registered Angus bulls. Their calves are what make up our beef program. The Brahman influence in the mama cows makes it possible for our cattle to:

Improving Florida’s Grazing Land

We partnered with Hillsborugh County to preserve Florida’s natural grazing land.

Our cattle are born and raised on our ranches in Odessa and Cross City Florida. They spend their entire lives on open pastures with access to native and improved pastures and fresh water sources.
